Ecatenate Builds a Fuel Delivery Workflow System for MiX Telematics
The telematics platform knows exactly where a fuel tanker is. The petrol station waiting for it does not. That gap is small, but it is expensive: site staff can’t prepare for a delivery they can’t anticipate, so tankers wait, deliveries take longer than they should, and forecourt operators plan their day around an approximate window.
Ecatenate developed a supply chain workflow system for MiX Telematics that closes it — managing the scheduled delivery of fuel to petrol stations throughout the UK, and notifying the site when the driver is approaching so operators can be ready for the tanker’s arrival.
It’s a supply chain with very little slack. A forecourt holds a limited buffer and depends on scheduled replenishment to keep trading, so keeping a national network supplied means the delivery cycle running smoothly, every day, at every site.
How it works
The system integrates with the MiX Telematics API, running the delivery schedule against live vehicle and driver data rather than a separate record of it. Because the tanker’s position is already being tracked, proximity to the next site can be turned into advance notice for the operator waiting there — no additional hardware, no phone calls, no guesswork.
Built for a provider, deployed to their clients
The system was created for MiX to serve several major logistics and supply chain clients. Rather than each fuel distributor commissioning its own bespoke build, MiX extends its platform with a workflow capability deployed across multiple customers — turning a tracking proposition into an operational one, on data those customers already generate.
Still running, still supported
Ecatenate continues to support the system today. Anyone can deliver a system; far fewer are still running one in production for major fuel distribution operations years later, absorbing changing requirements without anyone being tempted to replace it. Longevity is the most meaningful measure of quality there is.
