Ecatenate Builds Video Telematics for Brigade Electronics on Geotab

Fleet managers see harsh braking and collision alerts every day. The alert confirms that something happened; it doesn’t show what. Did the driver misjudge the stop, or did a car pull out in front of them? Without the footage there is no way to know — and no basis for coaching the driver, defending an insurance claim, or clearing someone who did nothing wrong.

Ecatenate has developed a Geotab video telematics solution for Brigade Electronics, now in use across the UK, Europe and Canada.

What was built

The Geotab Integration comprises three parts, all delivered inside MyGeotab:

Live video from the map. An add-in on the MyGeotab map page streams multi-camera live video for any vehicle — situational awareness for the vehicle a manager is already looking at.

Footage on demand from trip history. An add-in on the Trip History page allows footage to be retrieved for a journey after the fact, without leaving the trip record it relates to.

A driving events portal. A consolidated list of driving behaviour violations, each with access to multi-camera video. Events can be categorised, with additional information recorded against them, so a manager works a prioritised list with follow-up actions attached rather than an undifferentiated feed of alerts.

Event data that fetches its own evidence

The solution integrates Geotab trip and driving event data with the Brigade video telematics platform, automatically uploading the relevant footage from the vehicle’s MDR.

That automation is the engineering that makes the rest usable. A recorder holds a finite amount of video and sits on a mobile connection, so uploading everything is neither possible nor affordable — while retrieving footage manually is slow, and slow retrieval means clips are sometimes gone before anyone asks. Letting the driving event decide which footage matters, and pulling it up automatically, is what turns video from an archive into something a fleet can actually act on.

Why it matters

  • Events arrive with their evidence — the footage is already there when the event is reviewed
  • Coaching based on what happened — conversations grounded in video rather than a metric
  • Faster claims and exonerations — evidence available in minutes, not days of footage requests
  • One place to work — video sits inside MyGeotab, alongside the fleet data it relates to
  • Triage, not a firehose — categorisation and notes turn a stream of alerts into a managed queue
